Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Artists and Art Lovers!
...Two Years Have Passed Again! If it’s Sopron, this must be the Medal
Biennial!
The most faithful city – civitas fidelissima – Sopron decided
to be a good host to the national muster of Hungarian medal art in 1977.
This noble initiative of the town has grown into a time-honoured tradition,
and now when we have ever fewer financial means at our disposal, we think
it is an honourable task to stage the biennial exhibition. The adverse circumstances
and various challenges have inspired audacity and professional cooperation
that is not measurable in cash. That is how the exhibition could be realized,
with also several companies and foundations close to the medal supporting
the cause.
The Biennial still has a very important role: it is a major forum for the
Hungarian artists active in this field to present their works to one another
and to delight the public, both our town-dwellers and the Hungarian and foreign
visitors. It is particularly pleasurable that in addition to the “great
old masters,” a large number of the youngest generation have also brought
their works here, proving that the Sopron exhibition is still one of the
most important events of Hungarian medal art.
We owe our gratitude to all organizations, institutions and individuals that
have helped our work by donating prizes or rendering all sorts of organizing
work for the success of the Biennale. On behalf of the city of Sopron I wish
every success to the artists and elevating experience to the visitors!
