Városunk 1977-ben 700 éves fennállása alkalmával rendezte meg az első Országos Érembiennálét azzal a céllal, hogy állandó bemutatkozási fórumot teremtsen a kortárs magyar éremművészeknek. A tradícióira mindig büszke város a tervezett kiállításokkal egyszerre kívánt tisztelegni a hagyományos művészet, a múlt előtt, s otthonává, mecénásává válni a jelen éremművészetének.
Örömmel tölt el bennünket az elmúlt 25 év sikerekben gazdag kiállítássorozata, amelyen nagyon sok értékes művel találkozhatott városunk művészetszerető közönsége. Külön örülünk annak, hogy szeretett városunk megihlette a művészeket, hogy az elmúlt évtizedekben számos olyan érem született, s volt látható Sopronban, amelyen a város maga, legszebb emlékei és tisztelt személyei szerepelnek.
Elődeimhez híven én is megígérhetem, hogy nehéz gazdasági helyzetünk ellenére is támogatni fogjuk e kiállításokat, a kortárs éremművészet seregszemléit. Érdeklődéssel várjuk további kiváló művek megszületését, bemutatását.
Sopron városa büszke arra, hogy immár 25 éve adhat otthont e rendezvényeknek. Városunk nevében köszöntök minden alkotót, külön szeretettel gratulálok a biennálén díjat elnyerő művészeknek.

Walter DezsőpolgármesterOur town staged the first National Biennial of Medallic Art in 1977, on the 700th anniversary of the town's foundation. The aim was to create a forum where contemporary Hungarian medallists could put their works on display. The town, always proud of its traditions, wished to pay tribute to traditional art, to the past, and at the same time to be the host and patron of contemporary medallic art.
It is a great pleasure to us that so many successful and rich exhibitions have been staged in the past 25 years, presenting many valuable works to the art-loving population of our town. It is a special joy that our town has been inspiration to the artists and in the past decades several medals could be exhibited in Sopron showing the town, its finest monuments and honoured personages.
Just like my predecessors, I can also express the promise that despite our financial difficulties we will go on supporting these exhibitions, the musters of contemporary medallic art. We look forward eagerly to the creation and presentation of new works.
The town of Sopron feels proud to have been the host to this biennale for 25 years now. On behalf of the whole town, let me greet all creators and express special congratulations to the prize-winning artists.
